People often use non-linguistic communication methods such as physical gestures, which compose over 70% of our overall interaction with others. These physical gestures have regularity and repeatability as their common traits. This study is mainly discussing gesture recognition system for regular and repeated gestures. Torso PCA frame method is applied to angle transformation for such gesture recognition. In addition, a feature set is defined through extracting the patterns using envelope detection method and is applied to multi-layer perceptron for gesture recognition. |

Studies on Performance Evaluation and Indicator on Service Robot Face Recognition by using ETRI Face Database |
MINJONG KIM(Korea University of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea) |
Recently, face recognition technology has been developed and there are many methods of objective performance evaluations on algorism development by using FERET, POSTECH FD07 and Yale Face database. However, the robot platform for face recognition performance evaluation studies is rarely done. In this paper, we suggested the robot platform performance evaluation methods, using high-definition ETRI Face Database and projecting it on a computer monitor with indexes, the pose, the orientation, and the distance parameters so that we proposed the performance evaluation on face recognition. |

Performance Analysis of Software Architectures with Real-time Kernel Patches for the Rescue Robot |
Youngwoo LEE, Myeong Eon Jang, Jun Kim, Yong Woon Park(Agency for Defense Development, Republic of Korea) |
This paper introduces software architectures of the Rescue Robot that lifts and moves wounded soldiers in battle fields or hospitals. The Rescue Robot uses Linux with real-time kernel patches as a real-time operating system and EtherCAT as a real-time network. We test data transmitting times in three kinds of software architectures, Linux, Xenomai, and RTAI. Furthermore, we suggest a method to handle urgent commands or data quickly with a slightly modified kernel and a kernel module that reduces the time dramatically. This paper also analysis the difference of the real-time kernel patches. |

Development of Support System for Multi-Rotor Helicopter Operations using Electroencephalograph |
akinori sakaguchi, Takashi Takimoto(Kitakyushu National College of Technology, Japan) |
In this paper, we introduce a new support system using brainwaves data of an operator from an electroencephalograph in the operation of a multirotor helicopter.
Multirotor helicopters are used in aerial photography such as disaster information gathering and group photograph.
However, skillful techniques are required for operations of the helicopter.
Especially, when the operator manually controls the helicopter, there is a risk of fall and contact accident because of human errors.
Therefore, the purpose of this study is to detect an abnormal condition of operators, and prevent it by alerting. |

Prototype Design of Robotic Mobility Aid to Assist Elderly's Standing-Sitting, Walking, and Wheelchair Driving in Daily Life |
Seonghee Jeong, Satoshi Takahara(Osaka Electro-Communication Universty, Japan) |
A robotic mobility aid was proposed, which aims at assisting the elderly’s active mobility in a daily life.It consists of a wheeled balancing mobile platform, a 3 D.O.F waist part with a parallel
mechanism, and a dual manipulator with 4 D.O.F. The elderly’s physical motions to move, standing-sitting and walking, from such a bed to the other place could be assisted by the device. In addition, it is also capable of assisting a wheelchair driving by using the dual manipulator. |

Aerial Working Environment Monitoring Robot in High Radiation Area
Hocheol Shin, Chang-Hoi Kim (KAERI, Korea)
This paper shows the development of a robot monitoring an aerial working environment in a high radiation area such as the Calandria face at a PHWR. The robot consists of three main parts: a mobile platform, a telescopic mast, and a mission tool. The mobile platform is equipped with two front rubber wheels, two rear omni-wheels, and four flippers. The telescopic mast is able to lift up the mission devices to the height of 10m. The mission tool is a radiation hardend camera. |
